Day 17: Cleaning and Storing Adult Toys

General care guidance. The product manufacturer’s current instructions take priority.

Start with the manual

There is no single cleaning method that is safe for every product. Motors, batteries, charging ports, seams, coatings, adhesives, porous materials, and water-resistance ratings all matter. “Splashproof” does not mean submersible.

A basic cleaning routine

  1. Wash your hands and disconnect the product from power.
  2. Remove detachable parts if the instructions allow it.
  3. Clean with the method and cleaner recommended by the manufacturer.
  4. Keep water away from openings unless the product is explicitly rated for immersion.
  5. Rinse away cleaner when required, then dry completely with a clean lint-free cloth and air drying.
  6. Clean handles, buttons, cases, and other frequently touched areas as appropriate.

Avoid aggressive methods unless approved

Boiling, dishwashers, bleach solutions, alcohol, ultraviolet devices, and high heat can damage some products or leave unsafe residues. Use them only when the manufacturer explicitly confirms the exact method for that model and material.

Sharing and barriers

Sharing can transfer bodily fluids and microorganisms. Use a new compatible barrier for each person and each body area, change barriers between uses, and follow cleaning instructions. Do not move a product from the anus to the vagina without an appropriate barrier change and cleaning step.

Drying and storage

Moisture trapped in a closed pouch can encourage odor or microbial growth. Let products dry fully before storage. Store them separately when materials may react, and keep them away from dust, direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, pets, and children. Remove disposable batteries for long-term storage when the manufacturer recommends it.

When to replace a product

Stop using a product that has cracks, tears, peeling, corrosion, exposed wiring, battery swelling, persistent odor, sticky or changing texture, water intrusion, or charging problems. When in doubt, contact the manufacturer rather than attempting a repair that could compromise electrical or material safety.

Care checklist

  • Instructions and water-resistance rating are known.
  • The cleaner matches the material and construction.
  • The product is fully dry before storage.
  • Charging cables and batteries are undamaged.
  • Products are inspected before each use.
